Civil Service Exam Pattern
Students aspiring to become a civil service officer must be clear on the Civil service exam pattern and the examination process. The civil service exam includes three stages. This includes preliminary examination, Main examination and the Interview. Candidates must clear each of the exams to crack the UPSC exams. Thus it is not easy to clear the exams without proper orientation and preparation.
Know About Preliminary Exam
This is the first exam that the student must appear when they aspire to become a civil service officer. Clear the preliminary exam so that you can appear for the main examination. Thus the following are the detailed exam pattern and nature of the preliminary examination of the year 2019.
This is just a qualifying test, and the marks would not be considered for final selection. You can choose between Hindi and English based on your convenience on the language of the question paper. The examination duration is two hours, and all questions are multiple choice questions. The preliminary examination consists of two papers General Studies I and II. The total mark is for 200, and you would be awarded negative marks for every wrong answer. The minimum mark that you must score is 33% so that you are eligible to the next level.
Know About Main Exam
This exam pattern is entirely different from that of the previous exam. Students who score the minimum marks in the preliminary test are only eligible for the Main examination. The examination is entirely descriptive, and it is subjective. The exam includes nine papers of which seven are compulsory, and two papers are based on the choice of the candidate. The compulsory paper includes
· General Studies-4 Papers
· Essay- 1 Paper
· Regional Language paper-1
The candidate can choose the optional subject from the 26 subjects listed by the UPSC. The marking scheme for each of the nine papers of the main examination are listed below
General studies- Regional Language and English- each 300marks
